OK, I give up!

Alright, I'm bowing to the pressure from my friends and going Mac only. Tomorrow I'll pick up a 20" iMac.
My intention is to let my girlfriend open the box and install it, to see if it really is as easy as everyone claims. Of course I'll try and document the whole thing and post about it here. Stay tuned!

I must admit that the whole thing is slightly scary. Eventhough I've been using a PowerBook for work almost exclusively for the past 2 years or so, having a PC at home has always felt sort of "safe". The up-side will definitely be that because gaming won't be much of an option, I will have more time for "serious" stuff, like my photos. And Ruby. And blogging. And carp and anchovies, and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit-bats...(Skip a bit brother Tao! -Ed.)

Serious dilemma

OK, here's the deal. My PC is dying. Actually, it's as good as dead already. So is my monitor. I need some computing power at home, however. What do I do?

1. I buy a new PC, probably an AMD64, with all bells and whistles, like a GeForce 6800, Gig of RAM etc. and a Dell 20" widescreen TFT (aka "that same panel Apple uses").
2. I buy a 20" iMac.

Ouch!
Choices, choices. First of all, once you add it all up, these two systems will set me back roughly the same amount.

Choice number 1. will mean a killer gaming rig. But for how long? XBox 360 and PS3 will kick its ass easily and most new games are for consoles these days. However, choice 2. means no gaming at all...well OK, World of Warcraft, which happens to be my favourite.

Choice 2. though, is quiet and good looking. The girlfriend will love that. Actually, so would I.

Do I play that many games? Perhaps not...and I'm already using a PowerBook for work. Still...no gaming...This is a tough choice. The Mac on Intel thing is also in the background somewhere...damn this is hard.

Choice 1. is probably more powerful, but do I really care? Should I look at something else entirely? Like what?

Tao's got a brand new lens

This is the sort of thing, that you can do with a 10-22mm wide angle lens!

In case you don't get it: a "normal" lens would only be able to fit about half of this view into the picture...
