Franke & Heidecke, makers of medium format cameras for Rolleiflex, Leaf and Sinar has gone belly up, according to The Luminous Landscape. Their Hy6 cameras were supposed to be the open alternative to the increasingly closed-up Hasselblad platform.
This basically leaves Hasselblad by itself and Mamiya 645, together with PhaseOne.
With cheap 20 megapixel and up cameras becoming available, these guys are really going to be feeling the squeeze.
I'm hoping the others are able to stay afloat, but more likely there will be more such announcements coming.
